About Melissa

Melissa uses a range of proven approaches in her practice to help couples heal and reconnect having dedicated herself to a life of learning.

A Clinical Member of the Australian College of Relationship Counsellors and PACFA College of Psychotherapy, Melissa is also one of the few therapists in the country to have received training from the world’s most renowned pioneer in couples counselling, Dr Stan Tatkin, founder of the PACT Training Institute. Melissa has used the innovative Psychological Approach to Couple Therapy for over 10 years in her practice now. Trained as a Level 3 PACT Therapist she has been asked to be a PACT Ambassador by Dr. Stan Tatkin here in Australia for the PACT Institute in 2020 as a leader in the field to continue to write about the PACT approach and present PACT at mental health workshops and trainings. Melissa also in 2021 was invited to be a PACT Level Two Coach assisting with online PACT Trainings. Melissa also facilitates supervision groups with other couple therapists across Australia to receive the most optimal couple therapy guidance available, including internationally.

Known for her warmth and engaging personality, Melissa’s ability to identify and help people work through many of the key issues facing couples today has had a profound and transformative effect on many of her clients’ lives. She has helped thousands of individuals and couples gain insight into their relationship problems, resolve ongoing conflict, re-create sexual connection and work towards maintaining and developing a secure functioning relationship.

“Melissa’s knowledge of human behaviour is vast. Her insights are truly amazing and her understanding is profound.”

Through private sessions (individually or as a couple) as well as through couple intensives retreats, Melissa has created her own programme to help couples decipher behaviour patterns within their relationship that will help them to move towards love, intimacy, connection and happiness. Melissa believes that change happens in people when more unconscious dynamics are understood and worked through. The importance of understanding relational trauma is central to long term change and this is an area Melissa specialises in.

Located in Pyrmont, Melissa works with clients both locally in Sydney and across the country, helping couples to transform their relationships! She is also accredited in delivering therapy online.

Melissa’s passion also lies in her work as a clinical psychotherapist. With the influence of relational theorists and psychodynamic approaches she works with individuals in long-term psychotherapy and self-analysis. Melissa sees individuals for psychotherapy and counselling face to face in Pyrmont or is also available online.

“For myself it has changed my/our life for the better and I can’t thank you enough for teaching and showing us how we could move forward and learn to love, respect and appreciate each other for who we are.”

How Melissa Works

Melissa is best known for her compassion, non-judgmental style and her capacity to see the root problem quickly. Melissa’s approach to couples counselling is to get to the heart of the problem so she can help you resolve the underlying issues in the ‘here and now’. For best results, Melissa recommends the first scheduled appointment to be two hours long in person and for the initial sessions thereafter to be for two to three hours and then eventually step down to one hour. In the long term, this often means couples spend less time overall in couples counselling. Melissa’s main model to help couples is the PACT approach - Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy.

PACT was developed out of exciting, cutting-edge research in three areas - neuroscience, attachment theory and biology of human arousal. Melissa believes that understanding the unconscious process between couples is central to change in creating love and connection. Unconscious dynamics that are set down strongly due to how the brain works, how we are shaped in relationships and early relational trauma or attachments is what Melissa uses to understand relationships. This model works with the core issues created by a couple together unconsciously leading them towards secure functioning.
