About Melissa

As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I built my practice on a lifetime of learning and mental health advocacy. There’s nothing quite like helping clients reach new relationship heights! My goal as a provider is to assist clients on their healing journey and foster healthy connections.

A Clinical Member of the Australian College of Relationship Counsellors and PACFA College of Psychotherapy, I learned from the best. My professor and mentor is none other than the pioneer of couple counselling and founder of the PACT Training Institute, Dr Stan Tatkin. I’ve taken his teachings to heart and integrated the 'Psychological Approach to Couple Therapy' in my office for over a decade. I am now fully certified in this model of work by The PACT Institute in California, USA.

Thanks to Dr Tatkin’s personal recommendation, I was honoured to serve as a PACT Ambassador for the PACT Institute in 2020. I’ve continued to write about the PACT approach and presented on behalf of the organisation at mental health conferences. In 2021, I furthered my training as a PACT Level Two Coach to assist with online PACT Trainings. I’ve also facilitated supervision groups with other couple therapists nationally and internationally in an effort to promote couple therapy.

Clients and colleagues describe me as a warm person with a compassionate heart. It’s fair to say I’m especially adept at spotting relationship issues and providing unique insights into my clients’ personal lives. One of my greatest pleasures is to help individuals and couples come together, resolve conflict and develop an intimate bond; I’m proud to have helped thousands of clients so far and feel blessed to work as a Sydney counsellor.

I offer counselling in Penrith for individuals and couples, as well as couple intensive retreats. I even created my own couple programme to decipher behavioural patterns within a relationship for improved love, intimacy and connection. It is my belief that understanding the unconscious facilitates positive change. As a counsellor in Sydney, I specialise in processing relational trauma to create long-term change.

My online sessions as a counsellor in Penrith is ideally located for clients in and around Sydney. It is worth noting I also offer online services across Australia for individual and couple counselling.

I honed my passion for clinical psychotherapy during a long and fruitful career. At this stage, I’m especially interested in individual long-term psychotherapy and self-analysis. Clients can choose counselling Sydney or virtual appointments depending on their needs.

“For myself it has changed my/our life for the better and I can’t thank you enough for teaching and showing us how we could move forward and learn to love, respect and appreciate each other for who we are.”

My Approach

I am best known for my personable demeanour and quick interpersonal analysis. My objective as a counsellor in Sydney is to get to the heart of the problem and offer sensible solutions in real time. For best results, clients are encouraged to schedule a two hour ory consult online. Subsequent appointments last two or three hours before slowing to hourly sessions. The intensity of this style often requires clients to spend less time in couple counselling overall. For most couples two to four sessions are all that are required when working with Melissa. This of course depends on each case. Please be advised I primarily assist couples using the PACT approach—Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy.

PACT was born out of cutting-edge research in neuroscience, attachment theory and biology of human arousal. It follows that understanding a couple’s unconscious process sets the stage for effecting relationship change. Science has shown that the unconscious strongly influences brain function and relationship behaviour. For that reason, my practice emphasises early relational trauma or attachments to understand relationship dynamics. For more information about PACT, visit the organisation’s website here.
